Blitzer: Hold new Florida, Michigan primaries in August?

(CNN) — If neither Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama emerges after the final June 3 primaries with the magic number of 2,025 delegates - a very real possibility if the remaining contests are close - then this presidential nominating battle could indeed continue until the party convention in Denver that begins on Monday, August 25 and continues until Thursday night, August 28.

(CNN) — It’s an endorsement that both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would love to score, but Al Gore has remained firmly neutral — even as the Democratic presidential race drags on months longer than expected.

Prelude To Indiana and North Carolina Results Thread

Polls in Indiana close at either 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. eastern, depending on the time zone the precinct is in. For North Carolina, polls close statewide at 7:30 p.m. Given the polling averages in the two states (see here and here for Indiana, and here and here for North Carolina), popular vote winners should be called fairly quickly. Of course, delegate counts will take quite a bit longer.

Long Primary: Good For The Party?

It probably won’t be known until November whether this prolonged Democratic primary process is hurting the party. But with political participation at record highs around the country, it can’t be all bad.

In SurveyUSA’s last Indiana poll before today’s primary decides the state’s 72 pledged delegates, Clinton leads Obama by 12 points. In the four SurveyUSA polls taken in Indiana since the end of March, Clinton’s lead never fell below 9 points, and Obama never took more than 43%.
